The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam, has received the Sarkin Gyellesu Community of Zaria, Alhaji Abdullahi Yusuf, who led a delegation on a courtesy visit to congratulate him on his appointment as the first indigenous son of Zaria to head the Institute.
Speaking during the visit, the Sarkin Gyellesu explained that their mission was to felicitate with Dr. Imam on his historic appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and to encourage staff and management of the Institute to support him in fulfilling the mandate of NILEST, which aligns with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The community leader commended Dr. Imam for his humility and dedication, urging him to lead the Institute with fairness and the fear of God in dealing with management, staff, and students. He reminded the DG that leadership is a divine trust and prayed for his success and wisdom in office.
Responding, Dr. Imam expressed deep appreciation to the Sarkin Gyellesu and his entourage for their visit and fatherly advice. He assured the community of his commitment to strengthen relationships among all stakeholders within the Institute and to deliver meaningful reforms that would reposition NILEST as a national center of excellence in leather and science technology.
The DG highlighted some of his key achievements within his first year in office, including renovation of hostels, the boardroom, and the perimeter fence, as well as ongoing efforts to secure approval for the commencement of degree programmes at the Institute. Dr. Imam reaffirmed his resolve not to disappoint his community, Zaria, or the President who found him worthy of the appointment.
