The Kaduna State Police Command has commenced a full-scale manhunt after 210 rounds of 7.56mm ammunition were discovered along the Zaria–Funtua highway on Tuesday.
Witnesses said the ammunition fell from a moving commercial bus, prompting bystanders to quickly secure the items and alert security operatives stationed nearby.
Police spokesperson, Mansur Hassan, said attempts to trace and intercept the fleeing vehicle were unsuccessful, largely due to delays in reporting the incident.
According to the Command, the suspects may have dumped the ammunition after sensing heightened security presence along the route, following intensified motorised patrols and snap checkpoints.
Hassan assured that a vigorous operation is underway to identify and apprehend the individuals behind the suspicious movement of the ammunition.
