President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, the prominent Bauchi-based Islamic cleric and leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood, who died on Thursday at the age of 101.
Describing Sheikh Bauchi as a moral compass who devoted his life to teaching and preaching, President Tinubu said the cleric’s death is a monumental loss not only to his family and followers but to the entire nation.
He recalled the personal blessings and moral support he received from Sheikh Bauchi during the lead-up to the 2023 elections.
He praised the late cleric as a teacher, a father, and a voice of moderation and reason, noting that as both a preacher and an exegete of the Holy Quran, Sheikh Bauchi championed peace and piety.
“His death has created a huge void,” President Tinubu said.
In his condolence message, the President extended sympathies to Sheikh Bauchi’s followers across Nigeria and beyond, urging them to honour his legacy by upholding his teachings on peaceful coexistence, strengthening their relationship with God, and showing kindness to humanity.
