The Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has approved a total upgrade of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) State Secretariat located along Ahmadu Bello Way in the state.
According to the approval letter made available to the State Council, the project included the renovation and modernisation of the existing Secretariat, as well as the construction of a state-of-the-art conference hall.
Governor Bala Mohammed also approved the installation of a solar power system to ease the challenges faced by journalists who rely on the Secretariat for their daily activities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Secretary of the NUJ Bauchi Council, Isah Garba Gadau, said the intervention came at a crucial time, as infrastructure within the NUJ complex had deteriorated to a severe state of disrepair.
The Union expressed deep appreciation to Governor Mohammed for fulfilling his promise to upgrade the NUJ Press Centre, applauding his commitment to journalists' welfare, institutional support, and media development in the state.
The Council added that the gesture will significantly improve the working environment for journalists.
It further pledged to make judicious use of the upgraded facilities and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the state government by upholding the NUJ Code of Ethics while disseminating development-focused information to citizens.
