Kaduna — The High Court of Justice of Kaduna State has issued a comprehensive interim injunction restraining Elder Patrick D. Ambut and Victor Oluwatuyi from parading or functioning as Chairman and Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kaduna State Chapter.

The ruling, delivered by Justice A. Y. John of the Kaduna Judicial Division in case number KDB/KAD/1734/2025, followed an ex-parte motion filed by Hon. Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha and eleven other recognised members of the State Executive Committee. It marks a significant step toward safeguarding internal party democracy and stabilising the party’s leadership structure in Kaduna State.

According to a statement issued by Engineer Idris Musa, Publicity Secretary of the ADC Kaduna State Chapter, the court’s decision serves as a decisive intervention in protecting the party from what it described as attempts to assume illegitimate leadership positions.

The order restrains Ambut and Oluwatuyi from presenting themselves as officers of the party or attempting to run the affairs of the ADC in the state. The court further barred any attempt to relocate the party’s secretariat from its official address at No. 11 Katsina Road, opposite the Kaduna State Pilgrims Board.

In addition, both the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at the national level and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are prohibited from recognising or engaging with the duo in the disputed positions pending the hearing of the substantive matter.

Members of the legitimate State Executive Committee expressed appreciation for what they described as the court’s “swift and just intervention.” A representative of the group said the ruling is “a triumph for justice and internal democracy within the ADC,” stressing that the decision reinforces the judiciary’s role in resolving internal political disputes and upholding the will of party members.

The committee urged all parties — particularly Ambut and Oluwatuyi — to comply fully with the injunction, warning that any attempt to disregard the court’s directives would undermine the rule of law and the integrity of the political process.

The case has been adjourned to December 17, 2025, for the hearing of the substantive application. The ADC Kaduna State Executive Committee reaffirmed its commitment to the party’s constitution and to fostering transparent and democratic governance for the benefit of its members and the people of Kaduna State.
