Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has felicitated with Lt. Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma on his 87th birthday, lauding his life of service as a guiding light in Nigeria’s journey toward progress.
Gen. Danjuma, a former Chief of Army Staff and Minister of Defence during the Obasanjo administration, was praised for his remarkable contributions to national development, unity, and philanthropy.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, ABU, Zaria, on Thursday.
In a congratulatory letter, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adamu Ahmed described Gen. Danjuma’s journey as “defined by courage, patriotism, and unwavering dedication to national unity,” noting that it remains “an enduring source of inspiration.”
“Through your distinguished military service, principled leadership, and impactful philanthropy, you have touched lives and communities in ways that cannot be measured,” the letter stated. “Your commitment to justice, human development, and educational advancement places you among the rare individuals whose legacy transcends generations.”
The statement further highlighted that as an esteemed Honorary Award recipient of ABU, the university takes immense pride in celebrating Gen. Danjuma. It noted that his values mirror the ideals the institution upholds: integrity, excellence, resilience, and service to humanity.
“To our students, you represent a model of purposeful leadership; to our staff, you embody the spirit of national contribution; to the university management, you remain a cherished part of our institutional history,” the letter added. “Many stand taller because your life has paved the way. Many dream because your example proves that greatness is achieved through courage and compassion.”
Prof. Ahmed concluded by praying for Gen. Danjuma’s continued good health, inner peace, and renewed strength, wishing him many more years filled with joy and fulfillment.
