Concern is mounting over the reported disappearance of a staff member of the Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS), Mr Jeremiah Musa Ajebmi, as civil society groups and associates call for an urgent investigation into the matter.
Ajebmi, a civil servant in the Department of Land Administration at AGIS, was reportedly declared missing several days ago, sparking anxiety among colleagues, family members and members of the public.
Civil society organisations (CSOs) have alleged possible links between Ajebmi’s disappearance and a security aide attached to the office of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
However, the groups acknowledged that the allegations remain unproven and called for an independent and transparent investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
A close associate of the missing civil servant, Ishaku Gora, expressed deep concern over Ajebmi’s whereabouts and appealed to relevant authorities to intensify efforts to locate him.
Gora said the disappearance has created fear among friends and associates of the officer and urged authorities to ensure his safe return.
“We are worried about his safety and appeal to the authorities concerned to expedite action towards securing his release and reuniting him with his family,” he said.
The development comes amid heightened political activities in Abuja linked to ongoing local government election processes, raising apprehension among residents and civil servants over safety concerns.
Observers say the situation, if not promptly addressed, could erode public confidence, particularly among government workers.
As of press time, there had been no official statement from the FCT Administration or security agencies confirming Ajebmi’s status or detailing steps being taken to investigate the matter.
Civil society groups have urged authorities to provide timely updates, stressing that transparency in handling such cases is critical to maintaining public trust.
Efforts to obtain reactions from officials of the FCT Administration were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
