The Kautal Pulaaku Fulbe Association of Nigeria has called for the immediate removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan (SAN), over his alleged public remarks describing the Fulani ethnic group as “foreigners” in Nigeria.
In a statement released and signed by the Association’s Publicity Secretary, Haruna Idris Bayero, the group described the comment as false, discriminatory, and unconstitutional.
According to the Association, the statement violates the INEC Chairman’s oath of office and irreparably compromises his neutrality. It warned that an electoral umpire who holds such prejudiced views cannot guarantee a free and fair electoral process for over 26 million Fulani voters across the country.
The Association further stated that the remarks pose a serious threat to national unity and social cohesion.
“We therefore demand that the Federal Government and the National Assembly immediately initiate the constitutional processes required for his removal,” the statement said.
The group stressed that the continued stay of the INEC Chairman in office would undermine public confidence in the conduct of the 2027 general elections and endanger Nigeria’s unity.
