The Executive Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has rewarded the winners of the six categories of the 41st Niger State Qur’anic Recitation Competition with Hajj seats and a cash gift of N5 million each.
The competition, organised by the Niger State Qur’anic Recitation Competition Committee, was held in Bida.
All participants who took part in the competition also received a consolation prize of N1 million each.
Hassana Muhammad Husseini from Suleja Local Government Area emerged as the overall female winner, while Shamsudeen Awwal from Shiroro Local Government Area emerged as the overall male winner.
Speaking at the event, Governor Bago commended the organisers for their efforts in encouraging young people to become more productive and contribute meaningfully to society.
The governor reaffirmed that his administration would continue to support initiatives aimed at equipping young people with both Islamic and Western education. He also pledged to continue providing scholarships to support their education.
He encouraged parents to enrol their children in schools to enable them to acquire knowledge, develop discipline and contribute to national development.
The Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, commended the organisers for what he described as a remarkable effort and appreciated Governor Bago for his support.
Yahaya Abubakar also encouraged Muslim parents not to relent in sending their children to Islamic schools so that they can acquire deeper knowledge of their religion and become advocates of peace.
The Acting Chairman of the Niger State Qur’anic Recitation Competition Committee, Muhammad Ciroma, said the annual competition was organised to promote the memorisation of the Qur’an, which he described as the heritage and pride of all Muslims.
He disclosed that 134 participants drawn from the eight emirates of the state took part in the competition.
Ciroma added that the winners would represent Niger State at the national Qur’anic recitation competition scheduled to take place in Jigawa State in November this year.
In their separate remarks, the guest speaker at the event, Imam Idris Muhammad, and the Niger State Coordinator of the Qur’anic Recitation Committee, Malam Idris Muhammad, emphasised the importance of regularly reciting the Qur’an and adhering to its teachings, describing it as the guiding principle of every Muslim.
