A significant political development has emerged in Kaduna State as former governor, Dr. Muktar Labaran Yaro, has accepted calls to contest for the Senate under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The decision followed a high-level visit by local government chairmen from Zone One, led by their association chairman, Hon. Abubakar Jamilu Albani Samaru, to the former governor’s residence in the Kaura area of Zaria.

Prior to the visit, the delegation had convened at the office of Hon. Jamilu Ahmed (JAGA), who later hosted and formally introduced the group during the meeting.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Hon. Albani said the appeal was driven by what he described as widespread support across Zone One. He noted that Dr. Yaro’s governance record, integrity, and leadership experience made him a strong contender to represent the zone at the National Assembly.

“We are here on behalf of our people to respectfully urge you to answer this call to service. Your experience and credibility are exactly what our zone needs at this critical time,” he said.

In his response, Dr. Yaro expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as both humbling and encouraging. He maintained that his political career has consistently been shaped by public demand rather than personal ambition.

“I have never lobbied for any position. It is always the people who call, and I respond,” he stated.

The former governor subsequently accepted the request, a move analysts say could influence the dynamics of the senatorial race in Kaduna North.

“I accept this responsibility with a sense of duty and commitment to serve Kaduna State and Nigeria to the best of my ability,” he added.

Other stakeholders who spoke in support of the appeal included Hon. Dauda Iliya, Chairman of Kudan Local Government; Hon. Jamilu Ahmed (JAGA); and Barrister Hajiya A’isha Muhammad, all of whom emphasized the need for unity and strategic leadership ahead of the elections.

The meeting drew a large number of APC supporters, reflecting growing grassroots mobilisation around the former governor’s potential candidacy.

Hon. Yakubu Soja delivered the vote of thanks, commending Dr. Yaro for what he described as a timely acceptance of the call to serve.

Political observers say the development may reshape the contest for the Kaduna North senatorial seat, positioning the APC for a competitive outing in 2027.

The meeting ended peacefully.
