Political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gained momentum in Southern Kaduna on Saturday as Honourable Sylvester Anthony, popularly known as Brando, formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency.

The declaration ceremony, held in Zonkwa, attracted a large crowd of party supporters, stakeholders, traditional leaders, youth groups, women’s associations and community members from across the two local government areas that make up the constituency.

Dr Thod Joseph Dogo, former Kaduna State Commissioner for Health and former Chairman of Jaba Local Government Area, who chaired the occasion, was represented by Mr Peter Buba, Kaduna State Regional Manager of United Bank of Africa and Jagaban of Piriga Chiefdom. He described Sylvester Anthony as a competent and visionary leader whose years of service and experience at the National Assembly had prepared him for quality representation.

According to Dr Dogo, the aspirant had already shown commitment to the welfare of constituents through various interventions and developmental initiatives. He urged residents to unite and rally behind Anthony’s ambition.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service, Comrade Jerry Adams, called on the people of Zangon Kataf and Jaba to remain committed to the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the next elections.

He said the administrations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani had continued to deliver meaningful development projects across Zangon Kataf, Jaba, Southern Kaduna and the state at large.

Adams appealed to APC delegates and residents to give Sylvester Anthony maximum support during the forthcoming party primary, expressing confidence that his emergence would bring renewed focus on youth and women empowerment, grassroots development and effective representation.

Several dignitaries at the event also threw their weight behind the aspirant. They included the Chairman of Zangon Kataf Local Government Council, Engr. Bege Gaiya; Member representing Zangon Kataf Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Honourable Samuel Kambai; and Honourable Henry Mara, representing Jaba Constituency.

The leaders praised Anthony for his dedication, humility and longstanding contributions to the growth of the constituency. They said they were confident in his ability to attract development, strengthen unity and provide purposeful leadership, and called on voters to support his aspiration.

In his declaration speech, Honourable Sylvester Anthony thanked supporters and party leaders for their confidence in him and appealed to the people of Zangon Kataf and Jaba to back his candidacy.

He assured constituents of responsive and accessible leadership, as well as inclusive governance if elected into office. Anthony outlined his priorities to include infrastructure development, youth and women empowerment, improved education and healthcare delivery, job creation and regular engagement with constituents to ensure their voices are heard at the National Assembly.

He also pledged to prioritise security by working closely with government agencies, security operatives, community leaders and other stakeholders to promote lasting peace and stability across the constituency.

A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of his campaign structure and the donation of seven vehicles to campaign leadership, including the APC Chairmen of Zangon Kataf and Jaba Local Government Areas.

In addition, fifty motorcycles were distributed to ward APC chairmen and campaign coordinators across the two local government areas. Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture and pledged to use the vehicles and motorcycles to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and community development.

They also promised to give their total support to Sylvester Anthony’s ambition to represent the people of Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
