A close associate of former Bauchi State Governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, has dismissed reports alleging that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is considering removing him as the Renewed Hope Ambassador and Coordinator for the North-East.
Speaking on behalf of Yuguda, Alhaji Salisu Barau described the report published by 'Daily News' outlet on Friday as false, baseless, and deliberately misleading.
The publication had claimed, citing unnamed political sources, that the APC executive committee was planning to approve Yuguda’s removal over alleged anti-party activities, including claims that opposition politicians held meetings at his residence.
Reacting to the report, Barau said no such discussion had taken place within the APC and accused the newspaper of fabricating the story.
“This report is completely false. There has been no discussion within the APC executive committee about removing Mallam Isa Yuguda from his position as Renewed Hope Ambassador for the North-East,” Barau said.
He noted that Yuguda’s longstanding contributions to the development of Bauchi State and the country have earned him respect as a political leader and mentor across party lines.
Barau also highlighted Yuguda’s role during the 2023 general elections, arguing that his efforts significantly contributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s performance in Bauchi State.
According to him, it was in recognition of these contributions that President Tinubu appointed Yuguda as a Renewed Hope Ambassador for the North-East.
“Given his record of service and commitment, it is unfortunate for anyone to attempt to tarnish his reputation through unfounded allegations,” he said.
Addressing claims that politicians from other parties met at Yuguda’s residence, Barau maintained that such interactions should not be interpreted as anti-party activities.
He described Yuguda as a father figure to many politicians in Bauchi State, regardless of their party affiliations.
“President Tinubu is seeking the support of all Nigerians, not just APC members. Mallam Isa Yuguda is respected by politicians across party lines, many of whom regard him as a mentor and elder statesman,” Barau stated.
“For politicians from different parties to visit his home is not unusual. It is similar to children visiting the home of a respected father figure.”
Barau further argued that no APC member should use such circumstances as grounds to discredit Yuguda.
He warned that the publication could face legal action if it fails to retract the story and apologize.
“This report is defamatory. If Mallam Isa Yuguda chooses to pursue legal action, he has every right to seek justice,” he said.
Barau reiterated that there is no truth to the claims of an impending removal, insisting that both President Tinubu and the APC leadership recognise Yuguda’s political value and contributions.
He added that Yuguda remains an important figure in efforts to strengthen support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Mallam Isa Yuguda possesses the experience, credibility, and political influence needed to help deliver significant support for President Tinubu in 2027. Those seeking to undermine his reputation should desist immediately,” Barau added.
