Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has called on Nigerians to remain united and work collectively to ensure the sustainability of democracy in the country.
In a Democracy Day message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the Farmer Governor said 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance in Nigeria demonstrate that the nation’s democracy is on a steady path of progress.
He noted that under democratic rule, Nigeria has continued to evolve across various sectors through successive administrations over the past 27 years.
Governor Bago observed that Democracy Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the struggles, resilience, sacrifices, and aspirations of past and present leaders who have contributed to strengthening the nation’s democratic system.
He acknowledged that Nigeria is still a work in progress and has not yet attained its full potential, but emphasized that significant progress has been made.
The Farmer Governor called for the continued strengthening of democratic institutions, consistent electoral reforms, and adherence to democratic principles in order to keep the country on an upward developmental trajectory.
He stated:
“I congratulate all Nigerians on this day of commemorating our democracy. This day reflects our collective victory over dictatorship.
“I urge you all to remain united, strong, and committed to nurturing and sustaining our democracy until we achieve the nation of our dreams.
“I also appeal for continued prayers, understanding, and support for leaders at all levels as they remain committed to making the country better and more prosperous for all citizens.”
Governor Bago reaffirmed his commitment to the New Niger Agenda through responsible, transparent, accountable, and inclusive governance.
