The Niger State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging attacks by bandits on schools in parts of the state, describing the claims as false, misleading, and aimed at creating unnecessary fear among residents.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Orientation, the government reassured parents, guardians, students, and the general public that schools across the state remain safe, secure, and conducive for effective teaching and learning.

The clarification followed widespread reports on social media alleging that educational institutions in Bosso, Kpakungu, Sabon-Wuse, Lambata, and other communities had come under attack by criminal elements.

According to the Ministry, consultations with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the Niger State Police Command, and other relevant security agencies confirmed that no such incidents occurred.

It stated that independent assessments and security verifications conducted by relevant authorities established that the reports were entirely unfounded and deliberately designed to spread panic and anxiety among the public.

The government reiterated its commitment to the safety and welfare of students, teachers, and members of school communities, noting that efforts are being intensified to strengthen security around educational institutions across the state.

It further explained that the administration continues to collaborate closely with security agencies, school administrators, community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure the protection of lives and property within and around schools.

The Ministry urged parents and guardians to remain calm and continue sending their children and wards to school, assuring them that adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee a safe and conducive learning environment.

As the official communication channel of the state government, the Ministry of Information and Orientation advised members of the public to rely on recognized government platforms and accredited security agencies for verified information.

It warned against the dangers of spreading unverified reports, stressing that fake news undermines collective efforts aimed at maintaining peace, security, and social stability.

While appreciating the vigilance and cooperation of residents, the government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every school in Niger State remains a centre of learning, hope, safety, and opportunity.

Citizens were also encouraged to remain law-abiding, security conscious, and to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security agencies.

The government emphasized that safeguarding the future of children and preserving a peaceful atmosphere for quality education remain top priorities of the present administration.
