The Director-General of the Niger State Bureau of Religious Affairs, Imam (Dr.) Umar Farooq Abdullahi, MPI, on Monday held an interactive meeting with Imams, Islamic scholars, and leaders of Islamic organisations from Gurara, Suleja, and Tafa Local Government Areas.

Speaking during the engagement, the Director-General said the meeting was convened to strengthen unity, promote peaceful coexistence, and foster greater understanding among Islamic clerics and organisations across the three local government areas.

After listening to their observations, concerns, and grievances, Imam Abdullahi assured participants that the issues raised would be carefully reviewed and that necessary measures would be taken to address them. He urged Imams, scholars, and leaders of Islamic organisations to remain united under a common platform in the interest of peace, progress, and the development of Islam and society at large.

He noted that a united front among Islamic leaders would promote meaningful development, strengthen collaboration, and enhance effective religious guidance. He also advocated for regular weekly meetings to enable religious leaders to exchange ideas, deliberate on emerging issues, and speak with one voice on matters affecting the Muslim community.

The Director-General further disclosed his intention to engage the Governor of Niger State, Farmer Umaru Mohammed Bago, on the possibility of organising a statewide seminar that would bring together Imams, scholars, and leaders of Islamic organisations from across the state. According to him, such a gathering would foster mutual understanding, strengthen networking, and enhance collaboration in promoting peace and religious harmony.

He also encouraged religious leaders to sensitise their congregations in mosques, Islamic schools, and communities on the importance of obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that active civic participation is vital to strengthening democracy and ensuring that citizens' voices are reflected during elections.

The meeting concluded with special prayers for the continued success of His Excellency, Farmer Umaru Mohammed Bago, and for Almighty Allah to grant lasting peace, unity, and prosperity to Niger State and Nigeria as a whole.

Among those in the Director-General's entourage were Malam Sunusi Erena, Secretary of JIBWIS Kaduna; Malam Muktar, representative of JIBWIS Jos; Malam Abubakar, Chairman of the Assalafiyya Group; Malam Gidado; Malam Hudu Ibrahim Fari, Chairman of HUFFAZ; Malam Hamza, representative of the Tijaniyya Group; Malam Mahmud Murshid, Ameer of the MSSN Niger State Chapter; and other distinguished Islamic leaders.
