Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has reiterated the need for the people of Nupe Kingdom to continue to uphold peace and unity in order to achieve a progressive and sustainable future.
In a statement, the Governor congratulated the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, as well as the entire people of Nupe Kingdom, on the occasion of the 2026 Nupe Day celebration.
Farmer Governor Umaru Bago described the annual celebration as a significant event for the Nupe-speaking people, noting that it reflects their rich cultural heritage, traditions, and immense contributions to societal growth and the overall development of Nigeria through the outstanding achievements of Nupe sons and daughters both within and outside the country.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural values of the people, while acknowledging the critical role of traditional institutions in fostering peaceful coexistence among people of diverse backgrounds and reinforcing Nigeria's unity.
Farmer Governor Umaru Bago, who is also the Turakin Nupe, used the occasion to encourage the Nupe people and Nigerians in general to embrace the virtues of love, tolerance, and mutual respect. He added that Nupe Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the values of unity, cultural pride, and respect for constituted authority.
He also urged the Nupe people to remain hardworking and continue striving for excellence, qualities for which they are widely recognised.
The Governor further reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Niger State Government to promoting peaceful coexistence among people of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, describing peacebuilding as one of the key priorities of his administration.
Farmer Governor Umaru Bago also commended the traditional rulers in the state, under the leadership of the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, for their invaluable contributions to promoting peace, harmony, and stability across Nupe Kingdom and Niger State as a whole.
