The formal announcement by President BOLA AHMED TINUBU on Saturday 10th July, 2026, retaining Senator Kashim Shettima as his Running mate in the 2027 general election brought my over a year long personal and voluntary advocates for President Tinubu to appoint the former Speaker House of Representatives Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara Cfr as his Running mate.
However, government is very wide and white i congratulates the Vice president Sen Kashim Shettima on his re-nomination as Tinubu's running mate, I still advocated that RT HON YAKUBU DOGARA CFR should be considered by the present administration for a bigger alternative responsibility.
This write up acknowledges the "loss" (not being VP) though he ( Yakubu Dogara Cfr has never advocated for) but immediately re-frames it as an opportunity for more power, appealing to Tinubu's need for competent administrators.
My persistent advocacy and calls for Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara CFR to be given a bigger national role is well-supported by his credentials, especially given the ongoing debates about national unity.
Dogara’s uninterrupted sixteen years legislative experience and records as Speaker of the 8th House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019 distinguishes him as a capable administrator, reformer and a grass root mobilizer.
His tenure as the Speaker 8th House of Representatives saw the passage of transformative bills, including the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill (PIGB) for oil sector reform, the North-East Development Commission Bill to aid his home region, the north east devastated by insurgents and the Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill promoting youth political participation and engagement.
He was a strong advocate for legislative independence and introduced "Sectoral Debates" to enhance oversight of the executive branch .
A SYMBOL OF UNITY
A Christian from Bauchi State in the North-East, Dogara's identity brings a natural regional and religious balance to national conversations.
This and many other issues therefore fueled speculations about him as a potential running mate in 2027 .
A poll on Nairaland saw 16% of respondents support him for the VP role (compared to Shettima's 65%) .
Despite being a leading figure in such discussions, Dogara has publicly distanced himself from the VP speculation, stating: "I would have sincerely pleaded with you to leave me out of this..."( In one of his recent interviews on channels Television).
He advocates that decisions should be rooted in the pursuit of "justice" and building a nation that works for all .
His extensive legislative experience and stature as a national figure make him a strong candidate for roles like Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) or a senior ministerial position, where his leadership would significantly contribute to national development and promote inclusivity in government.
As a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dogara brings deep constitutional knowledge and legislative experience. This expertise is often cited as an asset for navigating complex national reforms and executive-legislative relations.
His background as a grassroots mobilizer and his relatively younger profile are viewed as potential assets to connect with demographics that might otherwise feel alienated.
Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara Cfr should therefore be appointed to a More higher position to assist in giving the minority groups in the North more sense of Responsibilities.
