The Niger State Government has secured a US$150 million loan from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to finance a solar energy project valued at US$160 million.

The Chairman of the New Niger Development Project (NNDP), Alhaji Mustapha Abubakar Bida, disclosed this during the second edition of the quarterly media briefing organised by the Ministry of Information and Orientation.

He said the state government would provide US$10 million as counterpart funding to complement the IsDB loan.

According to Alhaji Abubakar Bida, the loan was secured due to the state government's effective management of the Minna–Bida Road Project.

He explained that the solar project, to be located in Maikunkele, would deliver significant socio-economic benefits to residents, including social intervention programmes designed to improve their well-being.

«"This project will create direct and indirect jobs and will bring many other benefits," he said.»

The NNDP Chairman stated that the agency was established under Executive Order No. 30 of 2023 to support the implementation of projects by various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), while addressing gaps that could hinder successful project execution.

He added that the NNDP also ensures that compensation issues are handled effectively and efficiently through collaboration with relevant stakeholders, thereby facilitating seamless project implementation.

Alhaji Abubakar Bida further disclosed that the agency's personnel were carefully selected from across various MDAs to provide efficient services and ensure value for money in the execution of government projects.
