The Rafi Development Foundation (RDF) has expressed deep concern over the recent ethnic clashes in Tegina District of Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, calling on all parties involved to embrace peace and refrain from actions capable of escalating the crisis.

The Foundation condemned the loss of lives, destruction of property and disruption of peaceful coexistence caused by the violence, describing the incident as unfortunate and detrimental to the development of the affected communities.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Malam Ibrahim Ahmed Ushama, the Foundation said violence only deepens divisions, inflicts hardship on innocent residents and undermines the social and economic progress of the area.

According to the statement, as an organisation committed to promoting peace, unity and sustainable development, the RDF urged community leaders, youth groups, traditional institutions and other stakeholders to prioritise dialogue as the most effective means of resolving grievances and misunderstandings.

The Foundation also appealed to residents to reject all forms of retaliation, provocation and incitement that could further undermine law and order.

It noted that peaceful coexistence has long been a defining characteristic of the people of Rafi and stressed that every effort must be made to preserve that legacy for present and future generations.

The Foundation commended the swift intervention of security agencies, saying their prompt response had helped contain the crisis and prevent further deterioration of the security situation.

It also praised the commitment and professionalism of the security personnel deployed to restore peace in the affected communities.

Furthermore, the RDF expressed appreciation to the Niger State Government, the Rafi Local Government Council, the Emir of Kagara, other traditional rulers, religious leaders and all stakeholders for their continued efforts to restore peace and promote reconciliation.

The Foundation expressed confidence that sustained dialogue, mutual understanding and collective commitment to peaceful coexistence would lead to lasting peace.

It therefore called on all residents of Rafi Local Government Area to support ongoing peace-building initiatives and cooperate fully with constituted authorities in the interest of peace, stability and development.

The Rafi Development Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all genuine efforts aimed at promoting harmony, unity and sustainable development across the local government area.
