The Federal Government has confirmed the second-term appointment of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Alhaji Sadiq Yelwa (Katukan Yauri and Hasken Borgu).
The appointment, conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on August 7, 2026, stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved a second four-year tenure for Alhaji Yelwa as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of N-HYPPADEC.
The letter noted that the renewal followed the approval of the Senate after consideration by the relevant committee on October 29, 2025.
The extension is said to be in accordance with the provisions of Section 93 of the Electricity Act, 2023, as amended, which provides the legal framework for the tenure and appointment of relevant officers of the Commission.
The renewed tenure took effect on August 6, 2026, according to the approval conveyed by the Federal Government.
Alhaji Yelwa has continued to oversee the activities of N-HYPPADEC, which is responsible for addressing the developmental needs of communities affected by hydroelectric power generation activities.
