The Chairman of the NDC in charge of the North-Central region, Engineer Umar Usman Maikunkele, popularly known as Sai Malam, has called on Nigerians to work together to remove the All Progressives Congress (APC) from power, citing insecurity, rising living costs and economic hardship across the country.

Sai Malam made the call while speaking to journalists in Minna, where he commented on the prospects of the NDC in the forthcoming elections.

He said the NDC had developed a structure capable of competing with other major opposition parties, stressing that the party operates based on rules and principles that apply to all members, regardless of their political status.

According to him, the NDC is founded on policies aimed at promoting honest and fair leadership and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.

He said his political journey had been influenced by the philosophy of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, particularly his emphasis on improving the lives of the less privileged through quality education, skills acquisition and youth empowerment.

Sai Malam said he had followed Kwankwaso through different political platforms, including the NNPP, where he contested for a seat in the State House of Assembly.

He explained that following political developments and Kwankwaso’s movement from one political platform to another, he eventually became the party chairman in Bosso Local Government Area before moving to the ADC.

He said he is currently the NDC Chairman for the North-Central region and a candidate for the House of Representatives seat representing Bosso and Paikoro Local Government Areas.

Speaking on the performance of the APC-led Federal Government, Sai Malam criticised what he described as the worsening cost of living, insecurity and economic hardship experienced by Nigerians.

He questioned what the ruling party would present to Nigerians during the forthcoming election campaign, alleging that previous promises had not translated into meaningful improvements in the lives of citizens.

“If we assess the damage caused by this government in three years, Nigerians should ask themselves what would happen if it remains in power for another five years,” he said.

On the political alliance involving Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Sai Malam said Nigerians would ultimately judge the various political parties and their programmes based on their performance and policies.

He expressed confidence that the NDC would introduce policies capable of improving the lives of Nigerians if elected into power.

“If we take over the leadership of this country, Nigerians will see changes and programmes that they will appreciate,” he said.

Sai Malam therefore called on Nigerians to put aside what he described as empty promises and work together to address insecurity, revive the economy and improve the living conditions of citizens.

He described the NDC as a party committed to Nigerians and called for collective efforts to build a better future for the country.

“Everyone who is patriotic in this country must contribute to the removal of the APC government because the problems we are facing today affect everyone, directly or indirectly,” he said.

He lamented the impact of insecurity on communities across the country, saying many villages had been deserted, families displaced and communities disrupted by violence and abductions.

“We must tell ourselves the truth and work together to save our country,” Sai Malam added.
