The maiden edition of the Zazzau Public Speaking Contest has concluded successfully in Zaria, with Khadijatu Abubakar Hasan emerging as the overall winner.
The competition was organized by Youths Together Work Together (YTWT) in collaboration with Yhunich Mentors Academy (YMA) and held at The Fabs Hotel, GRA, Zaria.
Our correspondent reports that the event attracted young people, entrepreneurs, exhibitors, and individuals passionate about developing their public speaking skills. The atmosphere was vibrant, with participants showcasing exceptional talent and confidence throughout the competition.
The contest served as a platform for youth empowerment by promoting confidence, entrepreneurship, mentorship, and effective communication skills.
One of the highlights of the event was the remarkable confidence, courage, and eloquence displayed by the contestants during their presentations. Their performances underscored the potential of young people to drive meaningful change and contribute to nation-building when provided with the right opportunities and mentorship.
At the end of the contest, the judges selected ten outstanding contestants, from whom one overall champion was crowned.
Khadijatu Abubakar Hasan, from Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, emerged as the overall winner of the maiden edition of the competition.
Speaking after the event, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Comrade Aliyu Suleiman, expressed delight over the successful conduct of the competition, describing it as peaceful and impactful from start to finish.
He congratulated the winners and called on the government to support similar initiatives aimed at empowering young people through public speaking and leadership development. He also appreciated everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
The Chairman of Yhunich Mentors Academy, Comrade Shamsuddin Hasan Aboki, whose organization partnered in sponsoring the competition, also expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the event.
He encouraged young men and women with an interest in public speaking to remain committed to developing their communication skills and congratulated the winners for their outstanding performances.
One of the judges, Professor Ahmed Adamu, commended both the organizers and the contestants for the successful competition. He also urged the government and relevant stakeholders to invest in similar initiatives to empower more young people across the country.
Speaking with journalists after her victory, Khadijatu Abubakar Hasan expressed immense joy over her achievement.
She thanked her parents, teachers, mentors, and the organizers for their unwavering support, saying their encouragement played a significant role in her success.
The overall winner received a cash prize of ₦200,000, while several other outstanding contestants received ₦25,000 each, alongside certificates of participation.
In his remarks, the representative of the District Head of Sabon Gari, Alhaji Garba D. Umar Dan Barhim Zazzau, pledged continued support for the competition.
He said the outcome of the event would be conveyed to the Emir of Zazzau, with a view to encouraging the Emirate Council to support similar youth development initiatives in the future.
The event attracted distinguished guests from different sectors, including political leaders, business executives, school representatives, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders, who commended the organizers for the successful hosting of the competition and expressed hope that it would become an annual event.
