The Niger State Government has flagged off the distribution of 2026 wet-season agricultural inputs and productive assets to beneficiaries under the NG-CARES 2.0 Result Area 2 programme.
The initiative is aimed at protecting livelihoods, strengthening food production, supporting vulnerable households, and stimulating economic activities across communities, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Under the scheme, 15,922 farmers across Niger State will be supported, with 15,800 beneficiaries receiving agricultural production inputs, while 122 farmers will receive individual agricultural production assets.
The inputs include 2,350 metric tonnes of fertiliser, 21.61 metric tonnes of improved rice seeds, 102.95 metric tonnes of improved maize seeds, and 15,600 litres each of herbicides and insecticides.
The Executive Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, who flagged off the distribution in Minna, said the initiative was a significant milestone for farmers in the state, as it would go a long way towards increasing agricultural yields at the end of the wet season.
Represented by his deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, the Farmer Governor said his administration views agriculture not only as a means of feeding the people but also as a pathway to wealth creation, employment generation, and sustainable economic development.
He disclosed that his administration had supported the 2026 farming season with agricultural inputs and machinery across all 25 local government areas of the state. He added that the state also participated in the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Programme, through which 20,160 farmers benefited across the state.
In addition, the state government has provided 132,000 bags of fertiliser to farmers at subsidised rates, as well as 10 tractors to each of the 25 local government areas to boost agricultural production.
The National Project Coordinator, National FADAMA Coordination Office, Dr. Adegoke Austin, said the event was a practical demonstration of the collective commitment to strengthening the resilience, productivity, and livelihoods of farmers and other vulnerable members of the community.
He reaffirmed that the FADAMA NG-CARES programme remained firmly focused on translating government interventions into tangible benefits at the grassroots.
In his remarks, the State Project Coordinator, FADAMA NG-CARES Delivery Unit, Alhaji Shehu Kudu Mohammed, said the NG-CARES 2.0 Result Area 2 was aimed at enhancing food security and improving the livelihoods of vulnerable households through the provision of productive assets and labour-intensive agricultural infrastructure.
He applauded the support of the Farmer Governor in achieving the objectives of the programme.
He said beneficiaries in the state were drawn from key agricultural value chains, including rice, maize, sorghum, livestock, and fisheries, adding that the inputs provided would be continuously monitored to ensure their effective utilisation.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Isah Sidi Rijau, while acknowledging the tremendous support of the Farmer Governor, said the intervention would greatly improve food productivity, increase household incomes, and strengthen food security across the state.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Emir of Minna, represented by the Karman Minna, Alhaji Muhammad Kpotu Abdullahi, and the State Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Manko, represented by the association’s Vice Chairman, Muhammad Saba Usman, commended the efforts of FADAMA and the state government for their strides in the agricultural sector.
