Despite torrential rainfall, more than 700 Islamiyya schools, alongside hundreds of Muslim faithful, took part in a colourful procession to commemorate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) in Potiskum, Yobe State.

The annual Maulud procession is traditionally held on the first Saturday of Rabi’ al-Awwal every year.

The participating Islamiyya schools gathered at the palace of the Emir of Fika in Potiskum before forming an orderly procession through the town. The Emir remained at the palace to watch the procession as it passed.

The procession covered nearly all the major streets of Potiskum, bringing commercial and vehicular activities in parts of the town to a standstill as large crowds gathered to witness the event.

Fudiyya Islamiyya school and Harisawa marched in organised formations, performing ceremonial displays in honour of the Messenger of Allah (SAWW), while thousands of residents and other spectators lined the streets to watch.

Adding colour and cultural diversity to the celebration, some participants dressed in traditional attires representing various ethnic groups across Nigeria, including the: Igbo, Yoruba,bKanuri, Fulani, Bolewa, Ngizim, Kare-Kare and several other ethnic communities.

Despite the heavy downpour, the large turnout reflected the enthusiasm of the participants and residents of Potiskum in commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWW).
