The Governing Council of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has approved the appointment of Dr Aliyu Dalha Kankia as the new Registrar of the university, while Yahaya Hussaini has been appointed as the institution’s Bursar.
The appointments were approved at the Council’s 218th Special Meeting held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Council Chamber, Senate Building, ABU, Zaria.
According to a special bulletin issued by the university, the appointments were conveyed to the two officers in separate letters signed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, CFR.
The appointments will take effect from October 4, 2026.
Dr Kankia will succeed Rabiu Samaila as Registrar, while Hussaini will replace Malam Mohammed Bello Aminu Gurin as Bursar.
Kankia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University and a Master of Science degree, with specialisation in International Politics, from the University of London, United Kingdom. He later obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Political Science from ABU in 2024.
He joined the services of Ahmadu Bello University on December 10, 1990, and rose through the ranks to become a Deputy Registrar before his appointment as Registrar.
Hussaini, the incoming Bursar, is an accounting and finance professional with 31 years of experience in public financial management, university administration, treasury operations, budgeting, public-sector accounting and payroll.
As a senior officer in the university’s Bursary Department, Hussaini has gained extensive experience across major financial functions of the institution.
The university management congratulated the two appointees and wished them success in their new responsibilities.
