Residents of Abakpa New Extension in Kaduna North Local Government Area have commended Honourable Abdullahi Yarima for his swift intervention in restoring electricity to the community, describing the gesture as “timely, people-centred and rare.”
The community’s electricity transformer had broken down several weeks earlier, plunging thousands of households into darkness and disrupting daily activities, particularly access to water from boreholes powered by electric pumps.
Following an appeal from community leaders, Yarima intervened and funded the repair of the transformer. Electricity was restored within one week, providing relief to residents and businesses that depend on power.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Alhaji Alamin K. Wambai said the restoration had eased the burden on households.
“We sincerely appreciate Hon. Abdullahi Yarima for his prompt response. The repair of this transformer has given significant relief to many families, particularly those who rely on electric pumps to draw water from our boreholes,” Wambai said.
Another community leader, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed, described the speed of the intervention as unprecedented.
“This is the first time we have seen our transformer repaired within one week. His quick response shows he truly listens to the people’s concerns,” Mohammed said.
Hajiya Rabi Maman Hauwa, who spoke on behalf of women in the area, said residents were delighted by the restoration of electricity.
“We are happy. May Allah continue to bless him. We also appeal to other privileged people to support projects that directly improve the lives of ordinary citizens in their communities,” she said.
The community leaders also recalled that, within the past month, Yarima donated GeePee water tanks to Abakpa Primary Health Care Centre to improve water supply and support service delivery at the facility.
Residents described the two interventions as examples of community-focused support addressing basic needs, particularly electricity, water and healthcare.
They expressed appreciation to Yarima and prayed for continued opportunities for him to contribute to the development and welfare of the community.
The intervention in Abakpa New Extension comes amid complaints from residents in parts of Kaduna State over prolonged power outages and delays in the repair of public infrastructure. Community members said the one-week turnaround in restoring their transformer was therefore particularly significant to them.
