Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has distributed brand-new official vehicles to higher institutions and other public institutions in the state as part of efforts to strengthen administrative efficiency and improve service delivery in the education sector.
The vehicles were presented to the benefiting institutions on Friday at the Government House in Gusau, the state capital.
In a statement issued on Friday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the vehicles were provided as institutional assets and operational tools to support administration, supervision, accreditation, official engagements and other legitimate responsibilities of the beneficiaries.
According to Idris, the beneficiaries include the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State University, Talata Mafara, and Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara.
Other institutions and offices that received vehicles include the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Gusau; Teachers Service Board; Senior Secondary School Board; Quality Assurance; Zamfara State College of Arts and Science (ZACAS); and other state government public institutions.
Speaking during the distribution, Governor Lawal said the initiative was aimed at improving the productivity of public office holders by providing reliable transportation for official duties.
The governor, however, stressed that the vehicles were not personal entitlements of the beneficiaries and must be used strictly for official purposes.
“It is important to emphasise that these vehicles are not personal entitlements for any office holder. They remain the property of the Zamfara State Government and must be used responsibly and strictly for official purposes,” Lawal said.
He directed the benefiting institutions to ensure proper custody, deployment, maintenance and documentation of the vehicles, warning that heads of institutions would be held accountable for misuse, unauthorised use or unnecessary deterioration of the assets.
Lawal also called for greater accountability in the management of public resources, saying government investments in education must be matched by responsible leadership and prudent management.
“As the government invests in education, we must foster a culture of maintenance and accountability. Public assets should provide value throughout their life,” the governor said.
He added that his administration would continue to provide infrastructure, equipment and institutional support aimed at improving higher education in Zamfara State.
Lawal congratulated the benefiting institutions and urged them to ensure that the vehicles were used to serve their institutions, students and the people of Zamfara State rather than individual interests.
