Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has received the Outstanding Governor Award for the North-West from Daily Times Nigeria as part of activities marking the newspaper’s centenary anniversary in Abuja.
Governor Lawal received the award at the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards, organised to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the newspaper, which was first published in 1926.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, on September 3, 2026, Lawal was recognised for his leadership, public service and contributions to national development.
Chairman of the DTN@100 Heroes Awards Council, Bolaji Okusaga, said the governor emerged as the recipient after receiving the highest number of nominations in the North-West category.
“Following an extensive nomination and public voting process, you received the highest number of votes in this award category,” Okusaga said.
He added that the Times Heroes Award Council and other key stakeholders subsequently confirmed Lawal’s selection in recognition of his leadership, public service and contribution to national development.
In his response, Governor Lawal expressed appreciation to the Board, Management and Organising Committee of the Daily Times Nigeria @100 Celebration, the Times Heroes Award Council and Nigerians who supported his nomination.
The governor said the recognition reflected his administration’s commitment to promoting good governance and effective public service in Zamfara State.
Other notable Nigerians honoured at the event included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and former President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina.
The newspaper also announced that recipients of the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards would be featured among outstanding individuals and institutions in the 700-page Nigerian Grand Book, which is being published as a commemorative record of Nigeria’s development.
According to the organisers, the publication will document the people, institutions and achievements that have contributed to the country’s development over the years.
The foreword to the Nigerian Grand Book was written by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
