The Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Niger State has given its governorship candidate one week to clarify his position and demonstrate his commitment to the party following concerns over his relationship with the state leadership.

The decision was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Minna.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the state chairman of the party, Hon. Aliyu Mohammed, said the APM had candidates contesting various elective positions, from the presidency to the state House of Assembly.

He explained that the meeting was convened to review the party’s progress following the conclusion of primary elections by other political parties.

Mohammed described the APM as a party committed to patriotism and national development, saying its slogan, “Nigeria First,” reflects its belief that the country’s interests should take precedence over other considerations.

He said the party’s priorities include addressing the challenges facing ordinary Nigerians, restoring the dignity of agriculture, promoting peace and strengthening community self-reliance through responsible leadership.

According to him, the stakeholders decided to give the party’s governorship candidate one week to explain his candidacy and demonstrate renewed engagement with the state chapter.

Mohammed alleged that since the candidate secured the party’s ticket on merit, he had not maintained adequate contact with the state leadership, except during engagements involving the party’s national leadership.

He stressed that the APM expected its candidates to respect the party’s rules and maintain regular communication with its structures.

“The Allied People’s Movement is not a party where you can do whatever you want without following the rules,” Mohammed said, while emphasising the importance of unity and discipline within the party.

He cited developments involving the party’s leadership in Bauchi State as an indication of the importance of adherence to party regulations, although he did not provide further details.

The chairman also called on Nigerians to support the party’s national political direction, referencing Engineer Makinde and the need to provide an alternative leadership platform capable of addressing the country’s challenges.

Mohammed said the party’s political activities would gain greater visibility from November 7, 2026, when its presidential campaign is scheduled to be flagged off in Bauchi State.

He expressed confidence that the campaign would help Nigerians better understand the APM’s political agenda and its plans for Niger State.

The chairman urged all party candidates to intensify their engagement with voters and demonstrate seriousness about their respective contests.

He added that political power ultimately rests with the people and that electoral success requires candidates to seek public support.

Mohammed further observed that some politicians become disconnected from the people after winning elections, a situation he said had contributed to public dissatisfaction with the political system.

However, he cautioned against viewing military rule as a preferable alternative to democracy, arguing that democratic governance gives citizens the right to express their views and hold leaders accountable.

He expressed optimism that the people of Niger State and Nigeria would support the APM, adding that the party remained committed to working with the public and providing leadership if given the opportunity.
