Former members of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, led by Senator Aliyu Lawal Silver, have declared their support for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was made on Sunday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Assembly Hall, Barewa College, Zaria.
Speaking at the meeting, Senator Aliyu Lawal Silver reminded members that the APC emerged from a merger of political parties, noting that the ANPP played a significant role in the formation of the party and the subsequent emergence of an APC-led government at the federal level.
He acknowledged that some former ANPP members felt neglected within the APC but urged them not to withdraw their support, stressing that stepping aside was not the solution. Instead, he encouraged them to consider the development projects recorded under the APC administration in Zaria Local Government Area.
According to him, the former ANPP members would continue to support the APC-led government in view of the political merger that brought the parties together.
Senator Silver also highlighted what he described as a blessing for Zaria in the emergence of Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker of the House of Representatives, following his election for a fourth term in the House.
He appealed to aggrieved former ANPP members to forgive past grievances and give their full support to APC candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
In his remarks, Alhaji Aminu Sani, the Ajiyan Zazzau, described Senator Silver as a visionary leader who had mentored many individuals into political leadership.
He urged residents of Zaria Local Government Area to reflect on the achievements of the APC-led government and support the party in the forthcoming elections.
Earlier, Hon. Abubakar Rilwan, a former APC Zonal Chairman for the North, and Alhaji Haladu Haruna described those attending the meeting as committed and promising former ANPP members.
They claimed that each attendee had more than 50 votes within their respective households, which they said was one of the reasons for inviting them to the meeting as committed supporters of the ANPP’s political legacy.
The speakers assured Senator Silver that those present remained loyal to his leadership and would continue to support him.
Several other stakeholders also commended Senator Silver’s leadership qualities and political achievements, pledging to vote for APC candidates at all levels in the 2027 general elections.
