The Governor of Jigawa State, Dr. Umar Namadi, has presented employment letters to 2,020 teachers as part of efforts to strengthen the education sector and address the shortage of teachers in the state.

The presentation ceremony was held on Friday at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Dutse.

Of the beneficiaries, 1,200 are former J-TEACH personnel who have been converted to permanent and pensionable staff after completing training and a competitive selection process. The remaining 820 are newly recruited into the J-TEACH programme.

Speaking at the event, Governor Namadi urged the 1,200 newly confirmed teachers to see their new status as both a privilege and a responsibility, emphasizing integrity, discipline, and commitment to service.

He also encouraged the 820 new J-TEACH recruits to embrace the opportunity to learn, develop professionally, and prove their capacity for greater responsibility.

He charged all beneficiaries to be punctual, disciplined, and compassionate towards learners, and to remain committed to continuous professional development while accepting deployment to wherever their services are most needed.

The governor assured that the government would support the teachers through effective induction, mentoring, supervision, and fair performance assessment.

Also at the event, 450 bicycles donated by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) were distributed to students who trek long distances to school, especially those in rural and hard-to-reach communities.

According to the government, the intervention will reduce transportation challenges and improve punctuality, attendance, and retention.

The initiative, the government said, underscores its commitment to ensuring children in both urban and rural areas have access to quality education in a conducive environment.
