The Director of Youth Affairs of Atiku Pulse, Hon. Lawali Isah Gusau, has claimed that alleged intimidation and pressure on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State have increased the party’s popularity, attracting more than 2,000 groups reportedly defecting from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC across the state.

Lawali, who is based in Kaduna, made the claim while speaking with journalists in Gusau, Zamfara State.

He accused the APC-led government in Kaduna State of intimidating opposition parties, particularly ADC candidates, describing the alleged actions as unhealthy for democracy and warning that they could backfire on the ruling party.

He urged APC leaders to learn from the outcome of the 2023 general elections in Zamfara State, which he cited as an example of how political intimidation could produce unexpected electoral results.

“The APC in Kaduna, under Governor Uba Sani, should be cautious about intimidating opposition parties; otherwise, they will be shocked. The lesson is there in Zamfara,” he said.

Lawali recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State faced alleged sabotage and intimidation ahead of the 2023 elections. He drew parallels between the situation at the time and what he described as the current treatment of the ADC in Kaduna.

He argued that, despite the PDP’s lack of control over government at both the state and federal levels, its candidate won the governorship election, alongside seats in the State and National Assemblies, attributing the outcome to divine intervention.

The Atiku Pulse youth director also criticised the current administration’s handling of issues affecting northern Nigeria. He referred to an alleged meeting in London between Hajiya Naja’atu Muhammad and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 presidential campaign, claiming that Tinubu had indicated he had no specific plan for the North and would decide what to do for the region if elected.

According to Lawali, the alleged remarks informed Naja’atu’s decision to withdraw her support for Tinubu and publicly explain her reasons. He questioned why some northerners nevertheless voted for the APC in the 2023 presidential election, arguing that the region was now experiencing the consequences of that decision.

Against this backdrop, he urged northerners to carefully consider their choices ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning them against allowing political sentiments or being influenced by individuals he described as presidential loyalists pursuing personal interests.

Lawali further expressed confidence that electing ADC candidates, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, would address Nigeria’s security challenges, particularly terrorism and insecurity across the country.

He expressed hope that the party would bring an end to the country’s security problems, adding that such an outcome would be achieved by the grace of God.
