Free Zakzaky Protest in Abuja |
As we again come out today in demand for the freedom of our leader
Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife, it’s exactly 1644 days since when his
incarceration began at the hands of this repressive Buhari regime, in spite of
a valid high court order for his release, payment of compensation, and a house
built for him. Four years has since passed since this historic judgement that
has cast aspersion on the ability of the federal government to dispense
justice.
In the aftermath of Zaria genocide executed by the Nigerian
military in December 2015 we have been calling on all citizens to uphold the
dictum that injustice to one is injustice to all, but to no avail. Most people,
after the gross flagrant abuse of power by the military on Sheikh Zakzaky and
his followers couldn’t express their condemnation, choosing to remain silent
since the military excesses didn’t affect them directly.
But in truth, Islam abhors injustice, and enjoins Muslims to
express disdain to injustice and the unjust whoever they are. Indeed history is
full of instances when Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) assisted the victims of
injustice in upholding their rights. This explains why for the past five years
we have been explaining how this Buhari regime has trampled upon the rights of
Sheikh Zakzaky and his followers, demanding that citizens condemn this
repression, and call for the release of our leader unconditionally.
Indeed this repressive government has started on the wrong foot of
killing armless citizens exemplified by Zaria genocide and since then hardly a
week passes without damning reports of kidnappings, killings by bandits, tribal
jingoists, and insurgents, who always leave behind them tales of blood
spillage, destruction of properties and rape of defenceless citizens. In the
past few weeks the situation has exacerbated in almost all the 19 states of the
North.
It’s however gladdening that people have now realised where the blame
of this senseless killings going on in the country properly lies – the bucks
stops at the presidency. It is the duty of the federal government to secure the
lives of citizens wherever they are and whenever there is a breach of peaceful
coexistence it has a share of the blame. It is either the government is the
direct executor of the violence just like when its military descended upon
civilians in December 2015 in Zaria or its incompetence gave rise to the
violence just as it is with the case of the bandits pillaging the land with
death and destruction.
We therefore reiterate our call that it is obligatory upon the
citizens to show their disapproval to any oppression and support its victims
whoever they are, irrespective of their religious affiliation, tribe and
regional disposition. Injustice is injustice and it’s not difficult to be
identified. This is an important step that will issue in the necessary change
to the nation, such that the era when citizens just fold up their arms and
watch those at the helm of affairs oppressing whosoever is against them will be
a thing of the past.
We once again condemn the wanton killings going on in this country
under this Buhari regime since its inception, from Zaria genocide of December
2015 to the ones currently happening unchallenged by the security operatives in
states like Katsina, Zamfara, Sakoto, Niger, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Benue,
Kaduna, Plateau and others. It’s on record that our leader Sheikh Zakzaky has
warned the nation of this impending disaster nurtured by the government and its
foreign collaborators, who are bent on usurping the vast mineral resources this
region has been endowed with by Allah the Most High. And there is no iota of
doubt on the fact that among the reason for his incarceration is the way he has
been exposing their evil plans against the nation.
We also once again call on the federal government to obey the
federal high court order that granted freedom to our leader, Sheikh Zakzaky,
his wife and hundreds of others in detention over Zaria genocide since 2015.
Refusing to release them under the guise of a sham trial is a gross injustice,
and Allah abhors injustice and its perpetrators.
Peace be upon those who follow guidance.

SHEIKH ABDULHAMEED BELLO ZARIA
