The group under aegis of the Coalition of Civil Society
organizations North West and North Central has said that the Islamic Movement
in Nigeria under the leadership of Sheikh Zakzaky for the past fourth years
under its existence has suffered tremendous right violations more than any
other group in Nigeria.
The group said this on Saturday while briefing journalists on
insecurity and violation of fundamental Human Rights in Nigeria held in Abuja.
The group said that such violation reached a peak when Nigerian
Army under the leadership of Lt General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, Commanded and
supervised by the commander in Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari with impunity
committed the brutal massacre in December 2015 in Zaria on the pretext of Road
blocking and assassination attempt, which killed over one thousand unarmed
people.
The group noted in a dismay that the Nigeria Army maimed, burnt
alive, raped, and demolished homes, also buried hundreds people in mass grave.
These evil acts committed cannot be forgotten in our strive for human desired
Human Rights to be shaped with in this country.
“The Nigeria Government violated the said (section 33, 34 and 36)
of the 1999 constitution which says “Every person has a right to life, and no
one shall be deprived intentionally of his life, save in execution of
criminal offence of which he has found guilty. No Nigeria shall be
discriminated upon basis of his community, ethnic group, sex place of origin
and political opinion.
“In this case the minority shoots and members of the Islamic
Movement were discriminated by this government. The rights to fair hearing were
taken away forcefully as witnessed in the 2015 Kaduna state Judicial Commission
of inquiry proceedings and presidential committee on Human Rights Violation by
the Nigeria Army.”
“The Islamic Movement and its members had their rights legitimately
owned unmovable properties continuously destroyed with sheer wickedness and in
some cases denied permission to own,” they added.
The group called on the Nigeria Government to obey the
international Criminal Court (ICC), of Justice concerning this gruesome crime
against humanity and all the officers that are involved in the massacre of Shia
Minority Muslim should be arrested and hand over to ICC for justice to have its
cause.
