The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Academic and Non-Academic Staff Union of Bauchi State Tertiary Institutions has suspended its planned strike action following what it described as ‘Recent Efforts’ of the state government to implement promotions and consequential adjustment in salaries payment.
The pulling out from the proposed strike was announced by the chairman of the union, Comrade Abdulkadir Muhammad disclosed in a statement issued to journalists in Bauchi yesterday.
The chairman noted that the union has agreed to suspend the two weeks planned strike after acknowledging the efforts of state government to look into their demands.
Comrade Abdulrazak called on the state government to look at the remaining issues of their members, such as salary omissions that still persist during monthly salary payments.
He assured of the union’s redness to continue monitoring the implementation of the agreement issues to the latter.
The JAC consists of five higher institutions including Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education, Kangere, A. D. Rufa’i College of Education, Legal and General Studies, Misau; Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare; Bauchi State College of Agriculture, Ali to cimie. Bauchi; and Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi.
Statement said "We at JAC the Umbrella Union of Academic and Non Academic Staff Union of Bauchi State Tertiary institutions have acknowledged the effort of Bauchi State Government in looking into our demands by the recent announcement on the implementation of promotions and consequential adjustments to the state civil servants.
"Based on the response of the Government, JAC is here by informing its members and the general public that we have suspended the proposed two weeks roll over strike. However, we are calling on the Government to critically look at the remaining issue of salary omissions of our members that still persist up to this moment.
"We will continue to monitor the implementation of the agreement to the latter. We thank all well-meaning individuals who have contributed in one way or another in the course of our struggle."
