Court Adjourns Case of Islamic Movement Proscription

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Court 8 has adjourned hearing of the case challenging the ban on the Islamic Movement in Nigeria today Monday to 7th February, 2023. 

The case which the Islamic Movement in Nigeria filed against the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) started in 2019 following an order by the government to ban the Movement. 


According to counsel to the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Haruna Magashi, who spoke on behalf of the Movement, “the presiding judge sent a message through the registrars that he will not be able to make it to court today as a result of his health status. 

“All cases that were to be presided by the judge have been adjourned. We don’t have anything to say since the judge has gave a reason for his absence, which is as a result of his health and the time is not far from now,” he said. 

At the entrance of the court, peaceful protesters who assembled where seen with banners and placards with various inscriptions like ‘Free Zakzaky’ and ‘Release Zakzaky Passport Now’ among others.
