The Basawa Teachers’ College Old Students Association (BASOSA) has inaugurated a new caretaker executive committee to run the affairs of the association for the next two years, with Hon. Adam Jagaba as President.

Inaugurating the new executive members, the Patron of the association, Alhaji Abubakar Tanko, charged them to work towards sustaining the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on a yearly basis.

Tanko also tasked the new executives with linking up with various year groups to identify more former students of Basawa Teachers’ College, Zaria, and bring them into the association.

The newly inaugurated executives are Hon. Adam Jagaba, President; Lawal Dauda Mani, Vice President; Kabir Abdu, Secretary; Sani Aliyu, Public Relations Officer (PRO); and Umaru Dabo Husamatu, Assistant PRO.

Others are Hon. Yusuf Danjumma Akuso, Financial Secretary; Amadu Mamman Balele, Treasurer; Sagir Lawal Funtua, Auditor; Justice Mohammed Adamu Hamza, Legal Adviser; and Usman Musa Kwantakwaram, Welfare Officer.

The ex-officio members are CP Alhassan Mamuda; Prof. Julius Atama Gwani; Umar Abubakar Kankiya; Alhaji Abdu Abubakar Babadoko; and Dr Asmau Tanimu of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the occasion, Air Commodore Emmanuel Jakada (rtd.), expressed appreciation for the massive turnout of members, despite the association’s failure to hold its meeting for several years.

He expressed hope that the Annual General Meeting would henceforth be sustained without interruption except where there were justifiable reasons.

Jakada further called on members at home and in the diaspora to put their heads together and contribute towards moving the association forward.

During the general assembly, prominent old students who had excelled in their various fields of endeavour were honoured, while surviving former teachers of the college were also recognised and honoured.
