The Tax Club of Ahmadu Bello University, Zariya have inducted new members. In an interview shortly after the program, the President of Tax Club Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Comrade Sodeeq Opeyemi Adesoye said the Tax club has been trained over 15 years ago in a series of universities. Saying that coming on board there is a plan to ensure that there is tax awareness specifically in the northern part of the country in collaboration with Bayero University Kano (BUK) and Usman Dan Fodio University of Sokoto (UDUS) and other universities in the north.
Adesoye said; they planned to have collaborating programs to ensure that tax awareness inculcates among the youth because according to him the Northern part of Nigeria is lacking behind when it comes to tax awareness.
Adding that, the tax induction is both physical and virtual, stressing that all the participants are there with them, and all ANTAS National Bodies across all Universities in Nigeria joined virtually. Speakers from FIRS, Dangote industry and other relevant authorities explained how important tax is nowadays.
He further stated that as it stands now they reduce the cost to the barest minimum; both registration and everything are almost free just trying to see a way of encouraging people to come in so that people will get it better.
"Nigeria today's tax ratio continues to be very low because many people are not seen tax as obligatory and the only way we can finance our country is by collective responsibility which paying a tax is something you do and encourage others to do", he said.
Comrade Sadeeq who is also the National Vice President of the Association Of Nigerian Taxation students (ANTAS) therefore encouraged youth to understand their civil rights right from inception so that government can provide adequate facilities not only on the road but in public universities across the nation.
He charged his fellow students to learn and take knowledge about what tax is and educate their parents, neighbours and entire communities.
The Executive Chairman of Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service Dr Zaid Abubakar advised the incoming members to continue to work harder than the current administration for them to move the club to a greater height.
The tax club at Ahmadu Bello University celebrated its first-year anniversary and the induction of its new members with the theme "THE IMPACT OF TAX CLUBS IN HIGHER INSTITUTIONS AND ITS PROSPECTS".
