Barrister Sadiya Bahjatu Saleh Esq emerged as the Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of Nigeria, and Barrister Yusuf Abdulahi as the treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Bauchi State Branch in a by-election on Saturday.

Our correspondent reports that the general election of the Association was conducted in June and marred with irregularities that necessitated election into the office of Vice Chairman and that of treasurer was not conducted along with other offices.

The Chairman of the Election Committee Barrister Sadik Sarki announced that Barrister Sadiya Bahjatu Saleh Esq secured 52 votes to emerge as Vice Chairman while Barrister Yusuf also secured 52 votes to become the treasurer of the Association all through unopposed.

Sarki appreciated members for conducting themselves during the by-election.

The Chairman of the Branch Dr Ibrahim Danjuma said the elections was conducted unopposed and successfully in the two offices.

"Actually we had an election sometime in June with some issues warranting elections into the office of the Vice Chairman and treasurer not conducted.

"But we are able to overcome the issues and decided to conduct a by-election into the two offices not conducted in June. 

"Thank God we are able to conduct the  election peacefully, urging members of the branch leadership for the betterment of members," he said 

The new  Vice-Chairman Barrister Bahjatu Saleh Esq, told journalists that she appreciates members of the association for the opportunity to serve as the Vice Chairman. Saying is a roller coaster of emotions.

She pledged to work tirelessly towards promoting human rights and ensuring that justice is served in the state.

Saleh Esq emphasized the importance of the legal profession in promoting social justice and fighting against discrimination. 

She called on members of the legal community to work together in promoting the rule of law, protecting the rights of the vulnerable and marginalized, and ensuring that justice is served.

The New Vice Chairman promised to bring her wealth of experience and knowledge to bear in her new position as the Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Barrister Saleh Esq urged members to support the leadership of the association to move the association towards unity and to function effectively.
