Media trust has conducted a training on practical journalism and the importance of digital skills acquisition as value added requisite for gainful employment opportunity.
The training conducted at the Post graduate school of ABU Zaria was well attended by students and staff of the Department of Mass communication of the university.
Naziru Abubakar, Editor in chief, Media trust made the emphasis during a career talks organized by the company in partnership with the department of Mass communication held at the auditorium of post graduate school, ABU Zaria.
He said part of the company's initiative was to encourage students on their chosen career and 'catch them young' to fit into the global challenges of modern media industries.
Abubakar stated that the media trust as an ever growing multi-media industry has the social responsibility of grooming young students of journalism for subsequent enrollment into the mainstream media practice.
The Editor in chief noted that the initiative will motivate mass communication students across the country to strive harder to meet the industry's requirements.
He assured that "those of you aspiring to become practicing journalism will have the opportunity to do so in media trust as long as strive to meet the laid down requirements.
"Media trust has vast opportunities for you which you can leverage on.It is multi-faceted media industry with print, radio and television arms." He said.
Also speaking, the Head of Human Resource Department, Dr. Hadiza said Media trust has an initiative where students who excelled with first class grade are absorbed for employment.
"This has been a policy by the board of company for a very long time and students can grab this opportunity once they are qualified." Hadiza said.
She however explained that not only first class students are recruited in the company but also those with experience and those with special skills, like digital knowledge.
Earlier, Shamsuddeen Mohammed, Dean, faculty of Arts and Social science while expressing gratitude to the media trust for the effort to provide practical training to the students, urged other media organization to emulate the gesture.
Adana Adamu, the Head of Department, Mass communication, ABU Zaria acknowledged the impactful knowledge acquired by the students and called for more of such training by the media industry.
She noted that, the company has remained famous for credible and accurate reportage which has become a great symbol of objectivity across the nation and beyond.
Adamu hoped that a more robust partnerships could be rolled out between the department and the media trust to enjoy more benefits.
Highlights include the presentation of "Campus Herald newspaper" edited and published by final year students of the Institution to the Editor in chief, Media trust.
