For the third time, the Member representing Numan/Demsa/Lamurde Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Kwamoti B. La’ori, has organised a training programme on the importance of peace and the promotion of community development.
The two-day event, held at the Livak Arena Hotel Conference Hall in Numan, Adamawa State, was attended by youths from the three local government areas represented by the lawmaker.
Lamurde, Demsa, and Numan Local Government Areas of Adamawa State have, in recent years, witnessed frequent conflicts between farmers and herders, resulting in loss of lives and property and causing setbacks to socio-economic development in the areas.
The training is not the first peace-building initiative organised by Rt Hon Kwamoti B. La’ori, underscoring his belief in peace as a catalyst for rapid economic growth and sustainable development.
Speakers at the event praised Rt Hon La’ori for his exemplary leadership, noting that the constituency had not witnessed such a level of people-oriented representation in the past. They described him as a model legislator whose commitment extends beyond his constituency.
Among those who addressed the youths were Dr Dishe Kobe, Dr John Ngamsa, Hon Innocent Koto, Hon Bauna Nyandasa, and the District Head of Numan. They commended the initiative and urged participants to apply the lessons learnt, stressing reconciliation not only among themselves but also between farmers and herders.
“You have learnt how to reconcile among yourselves, not just between farmers and herders,” one of the speakers said. “Instead of asking for fish, ask to be taught how to fish. We must change this mindset, as it will not take us far. There is no way we can avoid living with herders, given our rich agricultural and pastoral land. Peaceful coexistence is the best option.”
They further cautioned the youths against allowing themselves to be used to cause division, warning that today’s actions could shape their future leadership roles. The speakers also noted that peaceful coexistence was a shared responsibility, as farming and cattle rearing cut across communities.
Also speaking, the lead facilitator of the training, Imirana Sani, expressed hope that the youths would implement the lessons taught during the two-day workshop, themed “Peace Begins With You.”
In his remarks, Rt Hon Kwamoti B. La’ori reiterated his commitment to peace and youth empowerment. He also provided financial support, donating several hundreds of thousands of naira to assist the participants with transportation back to their respective communities.
