Provost of Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare College, Professor Asabe Sadiya Mohammed has urged students to embrace sporting activities to shun cultism and other vices on the campuses.
Mohammed stated this at the end of the College 2023 Annual Inter-School Games Soccer Competition (Provost Cup) in Azare weekend.
She noted that sports and other extra-curricular activities are good measures that could stop the students from engaging in unlawful activities.
Mohammed congratulated the winning teams and asked them to do more to maintain their position.
She extended the College's appreciation to all the guests who spared their time to witness the event and further appreciated its Staff and students for their support.
In her words ‘I am very happy to see everyone blooming in the spirit of sports today and an absolute honour to gather this crowd that involves people of great personality, royalty and high calibre.

She highlighted the annual sports as a tradition in the College that started ever since the school was established.
My heart is overjoyed to see such enthusiastic participation by all our students. Every year the level of anticipation increases. It makes us more excited to see what’s coming ahead.
Extracurricular activities and sports teach students many important life lessons. It teaches discipline, focus, dedication, hard work, commitment, and teamwork.
However, it is our responsibility as teachers to value sportsmanship and award the courage of students to take action rather than focusing on winning or losing.
She also called on the various clubs, and individuals in the country to patronize the College Sport facility for maximum utilization and to also pick some of our talents to nurture them to become great stars for the country.
She requests everyone to applaud the Director of Sports, the Protocol Unit and the organizing committees for the job well done by making this occasion a memorable day for everyone.
In his address before the commencement of the game the Director of Sport, Services and Development in the College Bala Mohammed Shira welcomed the gathering and congratulated the teams that have reached the finals.
He cautioned them to desist from any foul play that would hinder the happiness of the game.
He uses the medium to express appreciation to the Management, Staff, Students and the sports committee for the overwhelming support given to him for the success of the competition.
The games commenced on the 13th and ended on the 23rd of September 2023.
The participating schools competed in soccer with each and the School of Secondary Education (Science) emerged victorious while the School of Postgraduate 2nd and the School of Secondary Education (Arts)
Prizes, gifts and lots of donations were given to the Best Goalkeeper, Highest Goal Scorer, Best player, Referee, and Best team among others.
In his remark, the Emir of Katagum Alhaji Umar Farouk II OON who was ably represented by Alhaji Umar Hassan Lili (Ubandoma Katagum) advised the students to ensure they concentrate on their studies.
He encourages them to assimilate into the process of socialization so that they become the expected leaders of tomorrow who would transform the Country into a peaceful, economically developed and technologically advanced Nation.
