The Jigawa state government has approved over 2.8 billion naira for the establishment of modern tsangaya schools(Almajiri schools in all the emirate councils of the state.
The commissioner of Information, Sports, Youths, and Culture, Hon Sagir Ahmad revealed that after the state’s executive council meeting presided over by Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state.
The commissioner noted that the approved funds are part of the Better Education for All initiatives (BESDA).
The commissioner further explained that the schools when completed would enroll at least 12,000 pupils across the state.
Meanwhile, the commissioner equally noted that the total sum of N2,851,797,098 will also be used for other activities ranging from payments of five months of outstanding allowances for facilitators of Almajiri/Girl child centers.
The commissioner also noted that another part of the funds will also be used to pay proprietors, procure materials, and organize capacity-building training and seminars for teachers across the state.
