Uplifting the Face of the Jigawa State Board of Internal Revenue Service

Under the leadership of Dr. Nasir Sabo Idris, FCA, FCTI, who is not yet a household name, the standard of revenue collection and modern digitalization processes across Jigawa State has been uplifted. Dr. Idris holds a BSc in Accounting from Bayero University Kano (BUK), MSc from BUK, an MSc in Finance from the University of London, and an MBA from BUK. He brings extensive work experience, having served over six years with First Bank Plc and 13 years with the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

Some of his legacies and initiatives aimed at uplifting the standard of the agency are:

1. Enforcement: Launched the JEET Program (Jigawa Enlightenment and Engagement Tax Teams), which conducts taxpayer education and sensitization every Wednesday.

2. Launched the Jigawa Road Tax Enforcement Teams, which conduct daily road tax enforcement.

3. Introduced consumption tax payable by restaurants, hotels, and event centers based on their weekly turnover (every Wednesday).

4. Introduced digital payment of taxes, including consumption tax, PAYEE, WHT, etc., allowing payments to be made from the comfort of one's home.

5. Introduced single Haulage Fees and Single interstate road tax stickers enforcement teams across the state.

6. Convened the Jigawa State and local government Joint Revenue Committee to harmonize tax administration in the state.

7. Introduced the Tax Audit and Investigation Department.

8. Established tax monitoring teams to oversee MDAs tax remittances to the state government.

9. Organized several town hall meetings with relevant stakeholders, including MDAs, NWRT, market unions, etc., for better taxpayer education and enlightenment.

10. The JEET program aims to improve awareness and bring more people into the tax net, while enforcement, monitoring, and tax audits will enhance compliance.

11. Launched weekly radio programs for taxpayer education and sensitization.

12. Organized several town hall meetings with relevant stakeholders, including MDAs, NWRT, market unions, etc., for better taxpayer education and enlightenment, among other initiatives.
