The management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has alerted members of the public to beware of an alleged fraudster who has been falsely parading himself as an official of the institution.
In a statement issued on Friday, 26 December 2025, the university identified the suspect as Yunusa Umar, popularly known as “Teacher.” The institution stressed that Umar is not a staff member of MAAUN and has no authorization to conduct any financial or official transactions on its behalf.
The university cautioned prospective and current students, parents, and the general public against engaging with Umar in matters relating to tuition, accommodation, application fees, or any other payments. It warned that anyone who transacts with him does so at their own risk.
MAAUN further disclaimed any liability for losses or damages arising from dealings with the said impersonator.
“Under no circumstances shall MAAUN Group of Universities be held responsible for any claims, losses, damage, expenses, or inconveniences resulting from or connected to the actions of this imposter,” the statement read.
The institution urged the public to verify all official dealings through its recognised channels and to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
