The Funtua Inland Dry Port was officially commissioned by the federal government, with the ceremony presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's representative and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
Senator Akume, speaking at the event, emphasized the government's aim to stimulate business activities and employment opportunities in Katsina State and Nigeria at large through the establishment of the port. He highlighted the agricultural potential of the region, noting its synergy with the port's operations and its accessibility to Northern businesses and neighboring countries like Niger Republic.
The President's representative urged the host community to maximize the port's benefits, emphasizing its significance as a national asset. He directed the Customs Department to ensure the port's efficient functioning.
Governor Dikko Umar Radda commended the federal government for realizing the project, aligning it with President Tinubu's agenda. He pledged the state government's support in attracting investors and advocated for the rehabilitation of the Zaria-Funtua rail line and the extension of gas supply to enhance the port's operations.
Dr. Umaru Mutallab, Chairman of the Funtua Dry Inland Port project, expressed gratitude for the port's establishment, foreseeing economic growth and business opportunities for Katsina residents. He urged local businesses to leverage this opportunity for development.
Minister for Marine and Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, emphasized the port's role in decongesting seaports and noted ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and upgrade them.
The commissioning ceremony, led by President Tinubu's representative, Senator Akume, alongside Minister Oyetola, Chairman Mutallab, and other dignitaries, marked a milestone in the port's inauguration.
