The Kaduna State Government, led by Uba Sani, has initiated efforts to care for Almajiris, as explained by Hajia Fauziyya Ado, the Special Assistant to the Governor on school feeding, during the Eid al-Adha celebrations held jointly with them on June 16, 2024.
Hajia Fauziyya Ado visited Umaru Musa 'Yar Adua Almajirai Bilingual Model Primary School IQTE Sabon Gari, Marabar Gwanda in Sabon Gari Local Government of Kaduna State on Eid day. She emphasized that this initiative was aimed at making Almajiris feel acknowledged by the government, exemplified by the Eid feast she organized for them.
Speaking further on Governor Uba Sani's agenda for Almajiris and their schools, Fa'iziyya reaffirmed the government's commitment to support Almajiri boarding schools across Kaduna State. She stressed the importance of motivating both teachers and students to foster good citizenship, a goal that she believes will bring pride to Kaduna State as a whole.
"We have eight such schools in Kaduna State," she noted. "These schools were established in response to the significant Almajiri population in the North. Neglecting their welfare and education would lead to considerable setbacks."
Describing the children as particularly vulnerable due to their impoverished backgrounds, Fauziyya emphasized, "Their parents are poor, and they often feel neglected. We are demonstrating that they are not alone, as we have sacrificed our own time with families to celebrate Eid with them."
Abdulhamid Aliyu, the school head, expressed gratitude to the Kaduna State Government for the marked improvements in feeding and overall care. He specifically commended Fauziyya for her ongoing support, recalling past Eid celebrations where rams were provided and special prayers were held for Kaduna State and the country.
Parents and community leaders attending the feast also praised the Kaduna State Government's efforts in supporting the children and their education.
Jamilu Ahmad Ibrahim, a student at the school, expressed his appreciation, saying, "May Allah continue to bless Uba Sani; he provided us with a ram even before Eid. We are thankful and hope Hajiya Fauziyya is promoted to a higher position."
Umar Muhammad, another student, echoed this sentiment, stating, "We have more food here than we do at home. May Allah reward her abundantly."
The Eid celebrations with the Almajiris concluded successfully, highlighting the government's ongoing commitment to their welfare and education.
