The altercation occurred when Hon. Saku and the lender crossed paths during the Eid celebrations. Reports indicate that he was beaten by thugs until he lost consciousness. Conflicting accounts suggest that he has either partially or fully repaid the debt since the incident.
Efforts by our reporter to contact Hon. Saku for his side of the story have been unsuccessful, as he has not responded to calls and has his phone set to "Do Not Disturb."
Further reports indicate that Hon. Saku is also facing allegations of misappropriating Hajj funds. He is accused of failing to refund money to pilgrims who were unable to undertake their Hajj journey.
Notably, Hon. Saku recently presented His Excellency, Governor Umar Bago, with a cow worth over a million Naira, along with fish and other items, during the governor's visit to the local government area for a 500-kilometer road project. Critics argue that these gifts could have been used to settle his debts.
The behavior of Hon. Saku, a public servant expected to uphold the law, has been deemed irresponsible and callous. There is speculation that if he does not rectify his actions, he could face impeachment.
While the assault on Hon. Saku by local residents was inappropriate, his actions have put him in a position where such retaliation occurred.
