The Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has committed to supporting teachers in the agricultural sector. The board's chairman, Malam Muhammad Baba Ibrahim Agaie (Mayakin Agaie), announced this at a stakeholder meeting held on Monday.

Malam Agaie stated that the state government, led by Governor Umar Mohammed Bago, aims to create a new Niger State by promoting self-reliance within the community. This initiative seeks to empower individuals to become financially independent and self-sufficient.

To support this vision, NSUBEB has developed programs to assist teachers in the agricultural sector, providing resources and support to help them manage their daily lives while fulfilling their teaching duties effectively. These programs will offer agricultural equipment, including irrigation systems, modern fertilizers, and other essential tools, through collaborations with agricultural units such as Niger Food, which is responsible for food provision in the state.

Malam Agaie advised teachers participating in the program to avoid involving students in agricultural work and to ensure their farms are located near their schools to prevent absences from work. He emphasized the need to create a conducive environment to improve the lives of teachers and their families, highlighting that a positive atmosphere would lead to better education quality.

"We have more than 3,000 schools and 24,000 teachers in the state. It is essential to create a supportive environment for them," said Malam Agaie. "A good system will result in quality education, and with the government's support, we can prepare effectively. The internet provides opportunities regardless of one's background, and improving teachers' lives is crucial for enhancing the teaching system."

Malam Agaie reiterated that even under challenging conditions, a robust support system could improve the teaching environment. He stressed the importance of the agricultural sector in boosting the economy and stability, noting that discussions with relevant parties have been held to ensure that all local governments benefit from the program.

Comrade Akayabo Adamu Muhammad, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), praised the initiative. He acknowledged that if implemented correctly, the program would allow teachers to support their families without solely relying on salaries. Comrade Muhammad assured that the union would review the process and make necessary recommendations to avoid any issues.

The meeting was attended by NSUBEB management, local government education secretaries, and NUT leaders from various local government areas in the state.
