Addressing the newly admitted students, the Provost of the college, Mr. Stanley Sehmasha, appreciated the Director and Chief Executive Officer of the college for granting approval to organize the program and ensuring everything was in order for its success. He highlighted the deployment of the right human resources for health, including world-class infrastructures that enhance teaching and learning.
"You played your role by providing everything we need in the college," Mr. Sehmasha said. "I assure you, my dedicated team and I will do our best to uplift the standard of learning in this institution."
Speaking to the newly admitted students, he warmly welcomed them on behalf of the Director, CEO, and the entire management of the institution. "Today, I confirm that you are now bona fide students of this institution. Congratulations," he said.
He also reminded the students to adhere to the college's rules and regulations as outlined in the student handbook, emphasizing that any violation could lead to suspension or dismissal. "This is a health training institution that does not compromise on standards and morality. We will do everything possible to enhance your training," he added.
The Provost further emphasized that being at this school is an opportunity to study hard and achieve their goals rather than engage in frivolous activities. He explained that the college is committed to training high-value human resources for health to contribute to national growth and universal coverage. "Our graduates can compete with anyone, anywhere, anytime," he asserted.
In his speech, the Director of the National Board for Technical Education (North West Zone), Salisu Abdullahi Saleem, explained the importance of skills acquisition programs. "As a regulatory body, NBTE now mandates that all tertiary institutions, including polytechnics and other allied institutions, incorporate skills acquisition programs into their curriculum," he stated.
During his presentation on "Embracing Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Practices," Dr. Stephen Peter S. Apkulu from the Department of Human Anatomy at Federal University Lafia discussed the evolution of AI. He explained that AI, coined by McCarthy in the 1950s, refers to algorithms developed to emulate human cognitive functions such as learning, reasoning, and problem-solving. AI includes machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision.
He noted that AI is revolutionizing education and clinical practice, emphasizing its potential benefits. "AI has high potential benefits in clinical practice. By addressing some challenges, AI can be effectively integrated into healthcare education. We must embrace AI if we are to survive in the healthcare system, as the future of healthcare practice will be machine-based intelligence. City College has always been at the forefront of innovative healthcare policies and management. Take the lead also with AI," he concluded.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the college, Hakimin Birni da Kewaye Barrister Sambo Shehu Idris, represented by Sarkin Wusasa, Engineer Isiyaku Danlami Yusuf, said that the Zazzau emirate would continue to partner with such institutions to uplift education in the Zazzau Emirate, Kaduna State, and the country as a whole.
